If you’re tired of feeling like every day is a battle—with tantrums, testing, or tension filling your home—The Positive Parent offers a better way...

Vivian Buhler, M.D.

"Not everything comes naturally, but every child can learn skills to thrive with the hand they're dealt."

VIVIAN BUHLER is a former doctor and mother of three spirited children, including a pediatric cancer survivor. When her daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in 2022, she retired from clinical family medicine to expand her impact worldwide through writing and remote health education.

Her passion is to help families thrive - physically, emotionally, and relationally - through research-driven, connection-based parenting.

She trained at UCSF School of Medicine and double majored in Bioengineering and English at Caltech. Her writing focuses on practical insights drawn from real-life experience combined with developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology.

If you enjoy The Whole Brain Child (Daniel Siegel, M.D.), How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk (Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish), The Conscious Parent (Shefali Tsabary, Ph.D.) or Raising Good Humans (Hunter Clarke-Fields, MSAE), you will especially appreciate her new series, The Compassionate Parent's Guide.

"Once they understand why and how to express themselves in a healthy way and meet their deepest needs, everything else flows from there. And those of us who are one step further along - parents, mentors and allies - can extend a loving hand to point the way and lighten the journey."
